Are you a very serious person?
Do you always attempt whatever you do in life with a serious demeanor?
Don't get me wrong, being serious is important in certain contexts. For instance, if someone close to you was involved in an accident, it's natural to be serious. In fact, instinctively you would be serious and want to help.
But maybe you are undergoing a life transformation plan. Or are trying out new therapy techniques. Perhaps you are trying out previously alien and challenging tasks. Are you taking it all very seriously? It's good to put in effort and do things diligently, as long as it doesn't compromise your sanity.
One way to ensure you don't take things too seriously, is by having fun doing whatever you are doing.
"But what I'm doing is not fun!", I hear you say. "It's difficult".
Well nothing on Earth worth getting is easy. This might sound a bit cheesy (in fact, now I re-read it to myself, it does!), but its true. It's just one of those things that we have to accept about being on this amazing planet called Earth - we can achieve no end of things, but the best things worth having, take some effort.
But try and find some joy in it. If you are unable to find some enjoyment in what you do, then the task becomes difficult, tedious and chore.
You can start by taking the pressure off yourself.
Say you have to go into a speaking situation where some 'important people' are going to be there. You might normally start to stammer in front of such 'important people'. Ask yourself, "How can I handle this situation playfully?" Maybe you can take solace in knowing these 'important people' had to brush their teeth first thing in the morning, just like the rest of us!
Next time things get a bit tricky for you, and you get into overly serious mode take a time out. Give yourself a slight slap on your left wrist. Smile and tell yourself "I'm going to have fun doing this".
Life is too short for too much seriousness...
